AKWA IBOM GERIATRIC CENTER READY FOR COMMISSIONING BY FIRST LADY REMI TINUBU – GOV ENO

Akwa Ibom State Governor, Umo Eno, has announced that the State Geriatric Centre, also known as the ARISE Elderly Citizens Centre, will be commissioned by Nigeria’s First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, on Saturday, March 7, 2026.

The Governor made the disclosure during the March edition of the Government House Monthly Covenant Service, noting that the commissioning of the facility located on the ARISE Medical Corridor along Uyo–Ikot Ekpene Road will be a major highlight of the First Lady’s first official visit to the state.

The visit will also feature the grand finale of the ongoing women sensitization and mobilisation tour across Akwa Ibom. Governor Eno explained that the centre, which includes a health facility and relaxation spots, is designed to cater specifically to senior citizens aged 65 years and above.

He described the project as a reflection of his administration’s commitment to inclusive governance and care for vulnerable groups.

The Governor commended women in the state for their active participation in the sensitization and economic empowerment programme and conveyed the First Lady’s warm felicitations to them.

He also expressed appreciation to all attendees at the covenant service, emphasizing that the state is currently executing numerous strategic projects that require sustained prayers for divine guidance and speed.

As part of efforts to revive commercial activities, Governor Eno announced that the state is constructing a brand-new jetty in Oron to restore the city’s lost maritime prominence. He further disclosed that preliminary works have commenced at the Ikot Ekpene International Market, with full-scale construction expected to begin soon.

In the aviation sector, the Governor revealed that the state will take delivery of two new Airbus aircraft within the year. He added that several projects are ongoing at the Victor Attah International Airport ahead of the commencement of international flight operations scheduled for April.

Governor Eno reiterated that the state operates a Treasury Single Account (TSA) system and directed all Ministries, Departments, and Agencies to ensure strict compliance, warning that his administration will not tolerate any infractions.

Highlighting the achievements of his administration, the Governor described peace and stability as the state’s greatest asset and urged residents to resist any attempt by individuals or groups to disrupt the prevailing harmony.

He also announced that the State Congress of the ruling All Progressives Congress is scheduled for Tuesday, March 3, 2026, encouraging party members to actively participate.

He noted with satisfaction that the era of oath-taking in party politics has ended under the new electoral law, which eliminates provisions for special delegates.

Governor Eno called on the congregation to continue praying for the success of his administration, as well as for the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, and President Bola Tinubu.

Earlier in his sermon titled “El-Shaddai,” drawn from 2 Corinthians 9:8, Pastor Umar Idris Enoch, Pastor-in-Charge of Region 14 of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, encouraged believers to trust in God despite uncertainties.

He assured worshippers that when a cause is rooted in God, there is no reason for fear, emphasizing that divine purpose ultimately prevails and that faith in El-Shaddai guarantees that the expectations of the righteous will not be cut short.
