The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has approved the creation of a National Caretaker Committee to take over the functions of the outgoing National Working Committee (NWC), whose tenure expires on Tuesday.
Announced during the 104th PDP NEC meeting in Abuja, the caretaker team will ensure continuous leadership, administrative stability, and preparation for a future national convention, where new party executives will be elected.
BoT Chairman, Senator Mao Ohuabunwa, reaffirmed that the transition is in line with the PDP constitution, stressing that it is essential for unity, organizational restructuring, and strengthening internal democracy.
The caretaker structure mirrors ongoing arrangements in key states and zones where congresses are pending, including Anambra and the South-East.
Party leaders say the move is part of wider reforms aimed at restoring confidence among members and repositioning the PDP ahead of upcoming political contests.
The newly inaugurated caretaker committee will coordinate party activities, manage reconciliation efforts, and guide the PDP toward a stable and legally compliant leadership transition.
This development comes amid calls for renewed discipline, respect for court rulings, and adherence to internal processes within the party.
