Governor Umo Eno Approves ₦2.3bn to Clear Gratuities Backlog, Total Payments Near ₦80bn

In a renewed commitment to clear outstanding gratuities, His Excellency Governor Uno Eno, has approved the release of an additional ₦2.3 billion for the payment of retirees’ benefits.

With the latest disbursement, the administration has now paid nearly ₦80 billion out of the ₦111 billion backlog of gratuities and other emoluments dating back to 2012, which it inherited upon assumption of office in 2023.

The governor reiterated that efforts would continue to steadily reduce the outstanding balance, emphasizing that retirees deserve dignity, respect, and timely compensation for their years of service.

“We will continue to steadily reduce the backlog because our retirees deserve dignity and respect,” the governor stated.

Beyond gratuity payments, the government highlighted its ongoing social investment programmes aimed at improving the welfare of vulnerable groups across the state.

Under the ARISE Compassionate Homes initiative, 335 housing units have so far been delivered, with a target of 500 homes set for completion within the administration’s first term in office.

Additionally, through the ARISE Elderly Care Initiative, senior citizens across wards receive monthly financial support.

More than 10,000 vulnerable residents are also currently benefiting from free healthcare coverage under the ARISE Medical Insurance Scheme.

The governor reaffirmed the administration’s resolve to combine infrastructure development with people-focused policies, noting that the goal remains inclusive growth and shared prosperity.

“We will keep walking the talk, building infrastructure, supporting our people, and ensuring that no one is left behind,” he added.
